KUALA LUMPUR: The nation’s Paralympians will be returning home from Rio de Janeiro to a heroes’ welcome Thursday.
The contingent is expected to arrive at 3.05pm at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport and will be greeted with a water salute.
Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin (pic) said they will then head for a welcome ceremony at the Bunga Raya Complex where they will be greeted by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor and the Paralympians’ family members.
“They will then be brought to Kuala Lumpur at 5pm for a 10km parade in the city centre.
“This will be a golden heroes’ welcome. This is something we’re very proud to organise for them.
“I really need Malaysians to come out. If you say you care about the Paralympians and if you’re in Kuala Lumpur on Thursday afternoon, then please come out to celebrate them,” Khairy told reporters here Tuesday.
The parade will start in Jalan Tun Razak and make two stops - at KLCC in front of the Petronas Filharmonik Hall and in front of Pavilion’s water fountain in Jalan Bukit Bintang.
The parade will end at the Paralympic Sports Excellence Centre in Kampung Pandan.
