PETALING JAYA: The Star Media Group marked another major milestone as it celebrated 45 years of inspiring the nation.

Group chairman Datuk Fu Ah Kiow, managing director and CEO Datuk Seri Wong Chun Wai, board members and the top management of the company arrived for the 45th anniversary celebrations at the Cybertorium in Menara Star here on Friday.

The celebration began with speeches by Wong and Fu, followed by presentation of long service awards, presentation of trophies and other launches.

In his speech, Fu said that The Star Media Group Bhd (SMGB) has been able to sustain for 45 years because of a culture of being willing to change for the better.

“SMGB will no longer be dependent on print for revenue. We will diversify our business because that is the way to go.

“I’m confident that we have the talent and team to continue succeeding for another glorious 45 years,” he added.

Although the entire print industry is facing challenging times, Fu said The Star’s fighting spirit will nevertheless shine through.

“As you all know, technology has affected every aspect of our lives and the media industry is of no exception.

“Our figures have been dwindling but we are not going to give up. The Star has a strong fighting spirit and we are going to continue to improve. We’re going to ride on the technological change to reinvent the company,” he added.

Also at the event, Fu and Wong launched The Star Media Group’s new layout of its newspaper and the introduction of two new languages - Mandarin and Bahasa Malaysia - for its online video platform TheStarTV.
