LRT passengers forced to evacuate train after power trip

PETALING JAYA: Scores of passengers travelling on the RapidKL LRT on Friday morning were forced to evacuate the train mid-journey after a power trip between the Setiawangsa and KLCC stations.

Images were being circulated on social media of passengers being forced to walk dangerously along the train tracks towards the nearest station, with many of them seen carrying umbrellas as it was raining.

RapidKL confirmed the incident in an update on its Twitter account, @myrapidkl, at 9.40am.

“KJ Line: Train service is currently on hold due to power trip from Setiawangsa to KLCC. Updates to follow,” it said in a tweet.

It said in another tweet 20 minutes later that passengers were being evacuated from the trains.

“KJ Line: Track to power up once passengers are fully cleared from evacuated trains. Follow updates,” RapidKL said.

"KJ Line: Affected passengers please proceed to our Customer Service counter at your station for your trip refund," it added.

The images of people walking on the tracks caused alarm among netizens, with many criticising RapidKL for the dangerous inconvenience.
