GEORGE TOWN: Penang police will ask Bukit Aman to request for assistance from Interpol to locate the three men featured alongside Namewee in his controversial music video.

Penang police chief Datuk Abdul Ghafar Rajab (pic) said based on information obtained from Namewee, whose real name is Wee Meng Chee, 33, the three men are Taiwanese singers, and are residing in Taiwan.

"Investigations are on-going and we will get assistance from Interpol to find the three men to record their statements.

"So far, police have recorded statement from seven people," he told reporters after a dinner and opening of a football championship to vie for the Inspector-General of Police trophy by Bukit Aman director (management) Datuk Seri Zulkifli Abdullah here on Monday night.

Abdul Ghafar said the police would also hold a meeting with the Penang Islamic Religious Department (JAIPP) to discuss the issue.

"We will discuss with JAIPP to know to what extent has the action by Namewee in singing and recording the act in the mosque insulted Islam," he said.

The controversial rapper is being remanded for four days since for investigations into a music video which allegedly insulted Islam.

Namewee was detained at the KL International Airport (KLIA) on Sunday upon arrival from abroad under Section 295 of the Penal Code.

The 4.05-minute video depicting four men singing in Mandarin has angered the public for allegedly insulting Islam. – Bernama
