ALOR SETAR: The Kedah state government plans to produce videos on the dangers of Islamic State’s deviant Islamic teachings to ensure that Muslims are not influenced by the violent ideology of the militant group.
It was aimed at countering arguments and teachings of IS militants mostly spread through videos uploaded on the Internet, said state religion, tourism, heritage and public works committee chairman Datuk Mohd Rawi Abd Hamid.
All stakeholders, including the Religious Department, Royal Malaysian Police, Malaysian Islamic Development Department and non-governmental organisations, would have to sit down together to discuss the matter, particularly the sharing of expertise, he added.
“The videos can be produced by the state’s ulama who will impart knowledge from the point of religious ideology, before being uploaded on social networking sites” he said when winding up the debate on the Sultan’s speech by the chairman of the Kedah Regency Council in the state assembly here yesterday.
Earlier, Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir (Independent-Ayer Hitam) said IS’ ideology is widespread on the Internet, through videos in the Indonesian and Malay languages.
He added that people are being influenced by the agenda circulated through these videos using verses from the Quran to attract attention.
“Usually it is difficult to correct those who are adversely affected by this ideology. They are even willing to deceive their parents to go to Syria to join the militant group," he said. — Bernama
