Hillslope bushfire snarls traffic on Sprint highway

KUALA LUMPUR: A bushfire on a hillslope opposite Phileo Damansara caused a minor traffic snarl along the Sprint highway for about an hour.

Taman Tun Dr Ismail fire station operations commander Mohd Tarmizi Abdullah said they were returning from standby duty at KLCC and responded to the distress call at 1.27pm Thursday.

He said two fire engines and 12 personnel from the Damansara and Taman Tun Dr Ismail stations responded to the emergency.

"Wne we arrived, the fire had engulfed a 30m by 24m patch of the hillslope and was spreading higher up due to the strong winds.

"We managed to get the fire under control and fully extinguish it at 2.19pm," he said, adding that the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
