PETALING JAYA: The Pokémon Go craze has also hit an animal adoption portal that has its own version of the game with cats and dogs replacing the original monster characters.

Aptly named the Real Pokémon Catch, animal lovers can visit Publika, Berjaya Times Square, Sunway Pyramid and 1 Utama shopping malls to find and ‘catch’ a cat or dog of their choice for adoption.

The initiative is a collaboration between pet adoption portal PetFinder.my and advertising agency Naga DDB.

According PetFinder.my founder Andy Koh, the initiative kicked-off at the four participating malls on Aug 13 and will continue until Aug 27.

“Those playing this game merely need a QR reader to find out about the dog and cats they are interested in adopting,’’ said Koh.

He said about 10 to 15 standees of the dogs and cats, characterised in Pokemon designs, would be placed at strategic locations in each mall.

And when a QR reader is used to read the code on a standee, the interested party will be directed to the Petfinder.my website where all the animal’s details and more pictures are displayed, said Koh.

“Adoptions can also be done immediately as all the necessary contact details will also be there,’’ added Koh.

He said the standees will also have various interesting taglines such as “Walk a mile for a real catch instead’, said Koh.

“Our campaign fits in well in all the four malls as they are also running the Pokemon Go promotions there,’’ said Koh.

Koh said he was thankful for the management of the four malls for participating in the campaign to help homeless animals.

“We hope that this fun-filled initiative will set a precedent for more creative animal welfare collaborations in the future,’’ he added.
