PETALING JAYA: Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad (pic), who was admitted to the National Heart Institute (IJN) for treatment of a chest infection, is slowly recovering but has yet to be discharged, said a close aide.
The aide said he was made to understand that Dr Mahathir, 91, was slowly recovering.
“IJN will only come out with a statement when there is a significant improvement,” he said when contacted yesterday.
On Tuesday, IJN said that the former prime minister was “expected to be kept under observation for the next few days”.
Dr Mahathir, the country’s prime minister for 22 years until he stepped down in 2003, has undergone two heart surgeries.
The past few months has been busy for him as he was involved in the formation of the new Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia together with former deputy prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
