KOTA KINABALU: The latest “kidnapping” of the skipper of a fishing trawler in Sabah – the third in a month – is puzzling police as it does not fit the modus operandi of cross-border kidnap-for-ransom groups.
They are zooming in on the possibility of “copycat” kidnapping by workers of the Sandakan registered fishing trawler who might be taking a leaf out of the notorious kidnap groups based in southern Philippines linked to Abu Sayyaf.
