TUMPAT: A youth lost his life after falling off a boat, hitting its propeller, while out fishing with a friend at Pantai Geting here Wednesday night.

Tumpat District Police chief, Supt Supt Zaharudin Rasid said Mohammad Faiz Wahib, 18, and his friend Mohd Azwa Mat Nor, were believed to have failed to keep the boat on an even keel in strong winds, in the incident at 9.30pm.

"Mohd Azwa managed to save himself by clambering back into the boat but  Mohammad Faiz failed to do so as he had been struck by the boat propeller," he told reporters here, today.

Zaharudin said Mohammad Faiz, who was injured on the right ear, forehead and left leg, died at the scene.

He said police received information on the incident at 9.45pm and preliminary investigation found no element of crime.

He said the body was sent to Tumpat Hospital for post-mortem. He urged the public against going out fishing in bad weather. - Bernama
