SUNGAI PETANI: A second victim in a family here succumbed to diphtheria when an 11-month-old baby died early Sunday morning.

The baby, Muhammad Rusyidi Rizky Amdin, died five weeks after his brother Muhammad Haris Haikal, two, died at the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital in Alor Setar on June 22.

They were two of the seven siblings of the family of Zalifah Hussin who were admitted to the Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital (HSAH) here on June 21 for suspected diphtheria.

“My baby drew his last breath at 2am this morning (Sunday),” said Zalifah, 40.

“I never expected him to die because he was healthy and active without showing any unusual changes after being discharged from Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital,” she added.

Muhammad Rusyidi Rizky Amdin was allowed home on Thursday after being discharged from the intensive care unit (ICU) of the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital.
