Latest France attack highlights EU’s challenges


KUALA LUMPUR: Hosting a garden party at the new Residence of France here on Thursday evening, French ambassador to Malaysia Christophe Penot spoke about the daunting challenges facing the European Union, ranging from the threat of terrorism and pressure of the migrant crisis to the impact of Britain’s vote to exit the EU (Brexit).

A couple of hours later in the picturesque Promenade des Anglais in Nice, France, a French-Tunisian man drove a large 19-tonne truck at high speed for 2km through a crowd at the beachfront during the Bastille Day celebration.
