Thai man arrested at border with pistol, bullets

They stopped the man during a routine festive season ops.

BUKIT KAYU HITAM: The Malaysian Border Security Agency (Aksem) seized a pistol and 15 live rounds from a Thai national at a roadblock at KM1.3 of the North-South Expressway on Tuesday evening near here.

Kedah Aksem Commander Abdul Latiff Abd Rahman confirmed the case and said that Aksem personnel had arrested the Thai national in his 30s at a roadblock in Bukit Kayu Hitam.

“They stopped the man during a routine festive season ops and carried out further inspection on him and found a Baretta pistol inside the pocket of his pants.

“A few 9mm calibre live bullets were also seized from him,” he said.

He said the suspect’s motorcycle as well as his handphone, a waist pouch and an international passport were seized from him for further investigation.

The man was later handed over to the Kubang Pasu District Police Headquarters. He was taken to the Jitra magistrate’s court on Wednesday for remand proceedings.
