Sungai Besar polls: Jamal Yunos declares victory for BN

SUNGAI BESAR: Sungai Besar Umno division chief Datuk Jamal Yunos has declared victory for Barisan Nasional in the by-election here.

He had sent out messages on his Whatsapp group congratulating Barisan for its victory.

"We have won. Shoot the fireworks in the new Umno building in Sungai Besar. Thank you and congratulations to Barisan for winning again in the by-election of P093 Sungai Besar," he wrote.

However, Jamal failed to give a proper answer when pressed for confirmation and just sent the thumbs-up emoticon as a response.

Almost an hour after his Whatsapp announcement, fireworks were fired from the Umno building here.

The fireworks show went on for five minutes, and police were spotted going into the building minutes after the fireworks were released.

The Sungai Besar by-election saw a three-way fight between  Barisan Nasional's Budiman Mohd Zohdi, who is also the Sungai Panjang assemblyman, PAS' Dr Abdul Rani Osman, who is also the Meru assemblyman, and Parti Amanah Negara’s Azhar Abdul Shukur.
