PETALING JAYA: DAP must acknowledge its responsibility for strengthening PAS, says MCA Syariah Laws and Policy Implementation Task Force chairman Gan Ping Sieu.

If it refused to acknowledge this, then the DAP should attend an open debate with the MCA, he added.

Gan issued the challenge to Kluang DAP MP Liew Chin Tong, because Liew was “trying to dismiss the fact that DAP was responsible for empowering PAS with ‘selective data’”.

“If Liew still insists DAP had never empowered and strengthened PAS and its Kelantan Syariah Criminal Code II 1993 (Amended 2015), please be ready for an open debate to set the record straight.”

Gan said it was crafty and intellectually dishonest of Liew to cite the reduction of PAS’ parliamentary seats from 23 to 21 as evidence to justify his claim that PAS had not been empowered by DAP during the last general election (GE13).

He pointed out that although PAS lost two parliamentary seats, it also gained two state seats at GE13.

Gan pointed out that Liew had endorsed the unknown PAS candidate for the Mahkota state seat in Kluang in the last general election.

“PAS made a historical breakthrough by securing constituencies with the support of the Chinese and Indian communities,” said Gan.
