Youth jailed one year for insulting Johor royalty

JOHOR BARU: A 19-year-old youth from Kelantan pleaded guilty to 14 charges for insulting the Johor royal family on Facebook at the Sessions Court here and was sentenced to one years' jail.

The accused, Muhammad Amirul Azwan Mohd Shakri, admitted to all the charges read to him before Justice Sabariah Atan on Tuesday.

He was charged for posting the insulting comments and replies with the intention of hurting the feelings of others on a Facebook page called TRW Troll Story using the name Miyo Castello between March and April this year.

He was charged under Section 233(1)(a) of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 (Act 588), punishable under Section 233(3) of the same Act, carries a maximum RM50,000 fine or up to one year's jail, or both, upon conviction.
