PUTRAJAYA: The drink served to students at SJK(C) Pandamaran A in Klang was simply normal purified water, said Deputy Education Minister Datuk P. Kamalanathan (pic).
Responding to allegations that the school’s headmistress had put pressure on students to consume what she called “miracle water”, Kamalanathan said the district education office investigated the issue as soon as the complaints surfaced.
“We found that it was ordinary drinking water,” Kamalanathan told reporters after launching the Anugerah 3K web portal here yesterday.
According to news reports, the headmistress had also placed bunting around the school, promoting the “treated” water.
Apparently, she even installed a vending machine for the students to buy the water, which carried the halal and Syabas logos.
The water is packaged by the Bai Shi Yin Guang Li Liang Ke Ji Yan Jiu Yuan movement, which propagates “wisdom light technology” to rid the body of “negativity”.
Kamalanathan said due to objections from parents and the school’s parent-teacher association, thorough checks had also been conducted on the water filters.
“Although the district education office has carried out investigations, we are waiting for detailed reports from the Health Ministry for further action.”
On the Anugerah 3K award, Kamalanathan said collaboration between Dutch Lady Malaysia and the Education Ministry would raise the standards of hygiene, health and safety in all schools.
“We have obtained reports from a preliminary study conducted by Universiti Putra Malaysia and the ministry on the impact of the 3K programme.
“The study found that there is a positive impact in terms of raising awareness and inculcating behavioural changes,” he said.
To date, 32 primary and secondary schools have taken part in the programme, which carries cash prizes for top winners.
