KUALA TERENGGANU: While other boys were playing with their friends, Hafsin Abd Aziz would be watching his late mother and seven sisters weave songket at their home in Kampung Losong Hj Mat Shafie here.

Initially, Hafsin would only watch from afar but soon, the ancient craft fascinated him so much that he decided to learn it in secret. When he was 12, he picked up the trade from his mother, Teh Embong.
