PETALING JAYA: The first round of Star Media Group’s 45@45 Giveaways met with a remarkable response with readers vying for the 45 Eagle I EG-228 dashcams up for grabs.

The 45 winners were selected by a panel of judges. The list of the lucky 45 can be found at contests.thestar.com.my/45anniversary/giveaway1/winners.aspx.

Winners will also be notified by email this week.

The top entries combined clever, funny or heart-warming slogans with compelling reasons for dashcam necessity.

Consideration was given to the number of hours drivers spent on the road too.

The winning slogans included a declaration that “in this era of narcissistic selfie taking, SMS responding, FB updating and plain jabbering over the phone while driving with or without hands, someone has to monitor the road!”

There was also the promise that “like a hawk with ears of a hound, I will police the roads with full dedication and pride. I will uphold asphalt justice and expose evildoers and lawbreakers!”

And one guy decided that “it’ll be interesting if some random guy jump and land on my car bonnet and I get to re-watch the video on repeat before showing it to the police.”

Winners included an animal rescuer, who will place the dashcam in the van used for mercy missions, as well as a driver for the Persatuan Mobiliti Selangor dan Kuala Lumpur, who transports wheelchair users for treatment.

Each Eagle I EG-228 dashcam is worth RM258 and comes with an installation voucher worth RM50 and an 8G SD card.

There are 211 approved installers in seven states.

The Star celebrates its 45th anniversary on Sept 9. To mark the anniversary, the giveaway bonanza has 45 gifts going to the same number of readers every 45 days.

There are five more giveaways, ranging from unique, bespoke experiences to luxury items.

Look out for the next giveaway, which will run from June 11 to June 20. This one will be family-focused, with a luxe experience that money just can’t buy.
