THE sudden unexplained closure of SJK(T) Bagan Serai’s preschool by order of a Kerian district education official has left parents fuming, Malaysia Nanban reported.
There are 17 pupils in the preschool this year that receives RM25,000 annually from the Socio-Economic Development of Indian Community unit, under the Prime Minister’s Department, according to Francis Xavier, president of the Kindergarten Teachers Association (PGT) of Malaysia.
An official from the Kerian education office visited the school at the end of April and instructed the headmaster to discontinue classes without any explanation, Francis said.
The school’s parent-teacher association (PTA) has shown no initiative in getting to the bottom of the issue and has remained silent over the closure, many parents claimed.
PGT Malaysia, along with PTA members from a nearby Tamil school and the school endowment board members, met district education officials but received no satisfactory explanation.
The closure has left the children stranded and will affect their early education, parents said as they demanded the education officials address the issue immediately.
