Datuk Seri Anifah Aman

PETALING JAYA: Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Anifah Aman will lead a delegation to meet the foreign ministers and armed forces chiefs of Indonesia and the Philippines.

Wisma Putra said the meeting would take place on May 5 in Jogjakarta, Indonesia on the invitation of Indonesia's Foreign Affairs Minister, Retno L.P Marsudi.

"The meeting will discuss joint efforts to strengthen coordination and cooperation with a view to enhance maritime security in the waters of the three countries," said the Wisma Putra statement.

It added that the meeting would also discuss the recent incidents of kidnapping.

"Malaysia is committed to work together with Indonesia and the Philippines in the maintenance of peace, security and stability of the area and the region," said the statement.

The most recent kidnapping took place on Apr 2, when four Malaysian tugboat crewmen were believed to be kidnapped by Filipino gunmen in southern Philippines.
