KUCHING: DAP stands to lose all its 12 incumbent seats if voter turnout is low, says state chairman Chong Chieng Jen (pic), and that includes his own Kota Sentosa seat.
Chong admitted that (PBB deputy president ) Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg's prediction that Barisan Nasional will wrest a few more seats back from DAP "is not all wrong".
"He is not all right either. And every party has their method of gauging the response from voters," said Chong.
"If turnout rate is low, Kota Sentosa (his own constituency) may even fall," Chong told reporters during a press conference at its Sarawak headquarters on Monday.
Chong pointed out he faces the possibility of losing his own Kota Sentosa seat, considering that a part of it was carved out to form the new Batu Kitang state seat, bearing in mind that there are 3,300 army votes in Kota Sentosa.
"So to win, we will need a high turnout rate on May 7," he said.
Abang Johari said Barisan Nasional has the ammunition to break into the opposition’s strongholds and wrest a number of seats in the May 7 polls.
Apart from breaking into the opposition’s territory or stronghold in the urban areas, Barisan candidates also have the ability to win seats held by the opposition in towns outside the city, said Abang Johari.
