BINTULU: Residents of Long Urun in Belaga, about 150km from here, can now enjoy telecommunication and Internet connection after a new 4G LTE tower was erected there.

The project, an initiative of the Communication and Multimedia Ministry through the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and DiGi Telecommuncation Sdn Bhd, would benefit about 1,200 residents.

The creation of 4G LTE services in Long Urun is also historic as this is the first time such a service had been brought to an extremely remote area under the “Connecting the Unconnected” programme.

A statement from DiGi said the telecommunication tower which uses SmallCell (doppler5000) system would allow the villagers to call or send messages and surf the Internet via their electronic devices.

“The tower is expected to bring much positive impact to the people in the area. Their daily activities depend on communication through the Internet and latest communication systems,” the ministry said in a statement.

The tower was launched by Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Dr Salleh Said Keruak on Saturday.
