Exco member to pay RM320,000 for defaming Umno reps

GEORGE TOWN: Four Umno elected reps have been awarded a total of RM320,000 in damages and costs in their defamation suit against state exco member Dr Afif Bahardin.

A High Court here ordered Dr Afif to pay RM70,000 in damages to each of the four plaintiffs - Tasek Gelugor MP Datuk Shabudin Yahaya, Telok Ayer Tawar assemblyman Datuk Jahara Hamid, Permatang Berangan assemblyman Omar Abd Hamid and Sungai Dua assemblyman Muhamad Yusoff Mohd Noor - with interest at 5% per annum from the date of the filing of summons on Sept 3, 2014, to the full realisation.
