IoJ urges govt to stop using criminal laws against journalists

PETALING JAYA: The Institute of Journalists Malaysia (IoJ) has urged police and the government not to use criminal laws, such as the Sedition Act, against journalists for writing news reports.

“There are many other measures - such as seeking a clarification from the media outlet and civil litigation suits - that could be used in the event of allegedly inaccurate or defamatory news reports,” said the IoJ in a statement released on Friday.
