KOTA BARU: Secondary schools here which were recently hit by cases of mass hysteria will now isolate students having such attacks, a random check showed.
This is to prevent other students from getting similar attacks.
The schools are SMK Pengkalan Chepa 1, SMK Pengkalan Chepa 2 and SMK Kemumin.
It was learnt that students of SMK Pengkalan Chepa 2 were allowed to leave school early on Tuesday after several female students were again hit by hysteria.
“One of my classmates started screaming for no reason. Our studies were disrupted and we were instructed to read Al-Quran verses,” said a Form Three student from the school.
On April 12, more than 100 teachers and students of SMK Pengkalan Chepa 2 had a mass hysteria attack.
Following that, the incident also happened in three other schools within a 5km radius of SMK Pengkalan Chepa 2.
They are SMK Pengkalan Chepa 1, SMK Kemumin and SMK Kubang Kerian 3. Several bomohs, ustazs and Islamic traditional practitioners were roped in to rid each school of bad spirits.
Affected students from these schools had similar accounts of seeing pocong and pontianak or black spectres on the days the hysteria happened.
However, local bomoh Wiru Sankala believed that the hot classrooms and pending major examinations could be the reasons behind the students’ unusual behaviour.
“Classrooms are hot despite ceiling fans and many students are stressed out by the hot condition. This may result in them seeing black spectres, pontianak and so on.
“We cannot exclude the possibility that they were possessed by dark force. The way I see it, as long as the hot weather continues, we can expect more students to be affected,” Wiru said yesterday.
