KUALA LUMPUR: The country will see experts on public transport converge here next month for the 16th edition of the annual International Association of Public Transport (UITP) Asia-Pacific Assembly.
Prasarana Malaysia Bhd president and group chief officer Datuk Azmi Abdul Aziz said the assembly will provide the opportunity for knowledge sharing between local and foreign public transport players.
“Malaysia will be able to share its experiences in improving public transport (in the country),” Azmi told the press on Tuesday, adding that Malaysia would share how it has speeded up improvements in public transport through several concurrently-run initiatives.
He added that several prominent speakers will be featured during the assembly, including Land Public Transport Commission chairman Tan Sri Dr Syed Hamid Albar, MRT Corp chief executive officer Datuk Shahril Mokhtar and founder of Walk 21, an organisation promoting walking, Jim Walker.
The assembly, organised by UITP and Prasarana, will be held on May 17 and 18.
The theme chosen for this year is "On An Upwards Trajectory: The Journey and Growth of Public Transport in Asia-Pacific".
On the LRT Ampang line and Kelana Jaya line extensions, Azmi said the project was currently on track.“The extensions are coming up nicely, we have already opened two sections and the final completion of the land extension will be on June 30, during puasa (fasting month),” he said, added that Prasarana will take advantage of the coming Hari Raya celebration to launch the extensions.
