KUCHING: A meeting between four Sarawak Barisan Nasional component parties and two breakaway parties is under way at the PBB headquarters here.
This could be the first time that the chiefs of SUPP, its breakaway UPP, and SPDP and its splinter Teras are getting together at a Barisan meeting with Chief Minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem.
Based on the individuals present, it appears that SUPP and SPDP are going to be fielded in the last three seats yet to be allocated for the state elections.
SUPP’s Ding Kuong Hiing could be Barisan’s preferred Meradong candidate, while SPDP’s Datuk Henry Harry Jinep and Datuk Dr Penguang Manggil look set to take Tasik Biru and Marudi.
Ding was Sarikei MP between 2008 and 2013, Harry is chief executive of a company, while Penguang is a retired civil servant.
Notably, the UPP and Teras-linked incumbents of the three seats, including Datuk Peter Nansian and Datuk Sylvester Entrie, have not been seen at the meeting.
Meanwhile, SUPP’s Pending candidate Milton Foo, who criticised the Chief Minister over candidate selection, told reporters the uproar he caused has been “settled”.
“It’s not for me to comment now. The issue has been settled. We will focus on winning the seat,” Foo said.
To questions on calls from PBB supreme council members for him to apologise to Adenan and their suggestion that he be dropped as a candidate, Foo said: “I haven’t read the statements. You have to ask the CM about it.”
The Barisan meeting began at 2pm. A press conference by Adenan is scheduled at 5pm.
