KUCHING: Incumbent candidates from Teras will resign from the party and stand as direct candidates under Barisan Nasional if necessary, says party president Tan Sri William Mawan (pic).

Speaking to reporters at an event in Yayasan Sarawak here Tuesday, Mawan said party incumbents would resign if it is required.

"We don't intend to, but if it is a must, if it is required as such, then we have to comply. If we want to be in Barisan and if we want to contest in the next election, we have to comply.

"There are no two ways about it. Otherwise things would become complicated," he said.

Asked on whether Teras, a breakaway party of the Sarawak Progressive Democratic Party (SPDP), has made a decision on its candidates, he said the party had already submitted a list of candidates.

"We just have not announced it. We don't want to cause a split on the ground and the party to become disunited. They might work against each other before the final decision is made.

"So even though we have two or three potentials on the ground, we don't want to say which one. We leave the decision to the higher-ups," he said, adding that the announcement of candidates would be made very soon.

Previously, Teras members had said that they would not resign from their party to stand as direct candidates under Barisan.
