Shots fired at Alor Setar Prison

ALOR SETAR: A man fired several shots at the guard post and watchtower of the Alor Setar Prison on Thursday night. 

The Kota Setar district police operations centre received information of the shooting incident at about 11.02pm.  

A prison warden on duty at the guardhouse saw a man riding pillion on a motorcycle of an accomplice.

The man alighted from the motorcycle and fired several shots, which hit the guard post and watchtower of the prison.  

Police rushed to the scene and found a few bullet casings scattered on the floor. 

No injuries were reported.  

Kedah police CID Chief Senior Asst Comm Mohd Nashir Ya said, "The shots fired were believed to be from a pistol."

He said the case would be investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder.
