GEORGE TOWN: What was supposed to be a fun time turned into tragedy when a five-year-old boy drowned in a swimming pool of an apartment block in Pantai Jerejak here.

His father, an Arab with German nationality, realised his son was not with the family in their rented apartment about 30 minutes after they left the pool at 11am yesterday.

The father rushed down to the pool area but it was already too late.

The boy was pronounced dead while on his way to a clinic nearby.

George Town OCPD Asst Comm Mior Faridalathrash Wahid said the cause of death was drowning.

He said the case had been classified as sudden death after the doctor who examined the boy found no sign of foul play.

“The apartment’s policy states clearly that children under the age of 12 are supposed to be supervised by an adult in the pool,” he said when contacted.
