PENGERANG: The mammoth Refinery and Petrochemicals Integrated Development (Rapid) project here will create some 54,000 job opportunities, including 4,000 permanent jobs, upon its completion scheduled in 2019.
Deputy International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Ahmad Maslan (pic) said the project is important to the oil, gas and petrochemical industry, especially in terms of job opportunities for locals.
"With over RM110bil in total investments including RM10bil for the Pengerang Deepwater Terminal project under Dialog Group Bhd, this Rapid project would be among the ministry's main focus.
"The peak of the job intakes will be in 2017 and 2018, so I hope that skills institutes can prepare their trainees in time to cater to the demand here," said Ahmad after a site visit to the terminal here on Monday.
