PETALING JAYA: The Syariah court has no right to interfere in any dispute arising from marriages registered under civil laws, said Wanita MCA National Chairman Datuk Heng Seai Kie
"We reiterate our stand whereby any disputes arising from marriages registered under civil laws, including religion status, custody and division of assets shall be determined by a civil court, whereby the Syariah court has no rights to interfere. This is because both Syariah and civil laws have different sets of laws governing marriages. Therefore, the ever-changing decisions by the various courts in cases of conversion of a spouse will only confuse people, and destabilise society," said Heng.
