PETALING JAYA: When Venus’ (not her real name) found out that her husband had been “fooling around”, her main concern was whether she had contracted HIV.

The 30-year-old receptionist confided her woes to a close friend who advised her to opt for a self-test kit if she felt uncomfortable about getting a check at the hospital.

Venus purchased a self-test kit from a pharmacy for RM50.

“It was very easy to use. I just pricked my finger using the lancet provided and dropped my blood on the testing device. I got the results in 10 minutes. I was quite relived because it was negative,” she said.

After much persuasion from her friend, Venus went for another test at the hospital which thankfully, was also negative.

“At least I knew what to expect from the confirmatory test after having done the self-test. But even if the self-test result was otherwise, I would still go for the confirmatory test. I can only expect the best and prepare for the worst,” said Venus.
