PETALING JAYA: Tragedy befell a young family after an accident along Jalan Permai, Taman Bukit Permai, Cheras here, killing a 29-year-old woman and her one-year-old son.
Her husband, a 32-year-old clerk at a company in Desa Pandan, survived the accident but sustained injuries to his face and head.
It is learnt that the trio were travelling on a motorcycle from Bukit Permai to Ampang when the bike skidded at the top of a hill at around 9.50am Monday.
Ampang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Hamzah Alias said the accident might have happened when the clerk tried to avoid a vehicle in their path.
"The motorcycle ploughed into a divider before the mother and child were flung off a cliff," he said, adding that the husband was pinned under the motorcycle at the top of the hill.
There were no witnesses. Police will be getting the full statement from the clerk who is still too traumatised to talk about the accident," he added.
ACP Hamzah said the woman, a bank employee, and her toddler son were believed to have died on the spot from severe head injuries.
Their bodies were sent to Hospital Kuala Lumpur for a post-mortem.
The case has been classified as reckless driving under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act.
