Contributions of Indian Muslim community acknowledged

KUALA LUMPUR: The contributions of the Indian Muslim community is commendable, and the Government depends on its continued support, said the Deputy Prime Minister.

Speaking at the Golden Dinar Awards here Monday, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who is also Home Minister, said the community had a long history of economic accomplishment, which had in turn, bolstered the country's economy.

He said being a multi-cultural society country meant the Government had to be conscientious of the contributions and needs of minorities. 

Dr Ahmad Zahid said as it was not a political event, he did not want to talk politics, but added he had faith that the Indian Muslim community would continue its support.

"Islam is a religion of peace, and for that, I am grateful that the Indian Muslim community has not involved itself with militants," he said.

He also said that "as far as he was aware", there had been no jihadi militants involving those from the Indian Muslim community.
