PAGOH: Pagoh Umno division members opposed the party's decision to suspend its chief, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, as the deputy president.

The division's secretary, Asraf Mokhtar, said the "rash decision" by the supreme council on Friday did not follow proper procedures as stipulated in the party's constitution.

"The MKT (supreme council) and Umno Constitution were misused by the president who pushed aside the democratic process observed in Umno.

"Tan Sri Muhyiddin was chosen (as deputy president) by members nationwide, therefore the supreme council has betrayed the members," Asraf told a press conference on Saturday.

Asraf added that Muhyiddin merely highlighted issues concerning the Prime Minister based on reports from government agencies such as the former Attorney-General, Bank Negara Governor and Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission.

"Tan Sri Muhyiddin only advised the president to strengthen the party, not for personal interest," he said.

The supreme council on Friday suspended Muhyiddin from the post of party deputy president until the next party elections.
