SHAH ALAM: Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz’s comment on Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin is a sincere view in wanting Umno leaders to be disciplined, especially those holding high positions in the party, said Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek (pix).

The Umno supreme council member said the reminder by Nazri was not only aimed at Muhyiddin, but to all party members.

"I believe we have our methods ... for example, if there are differences in political views, Tan Sri Muhyiddin, as deputy president could voice his views in the Umno supreme council meetings.

"Rightly, the spirit achieved during the last Umno supreme council, whereby the president (Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak) opted to be big-hearted and embraced and shook hands with Muhyiddin, and reciprocated by the latter, should be appreciated.

“Whatever differences must be solved inside the party, not outside," he told reporters here Tuesday.

Ahmad Shabery said this when asked to comment on a statement by Nazri, who is also an Umno supreme council member, Monday urging Muhyiddin to step down from his post as party deputy president if he could no longer carry out the duties properly entrusted to him.

Earlier, Ahmad Shabery, who is also Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Minister, visited a factory belonging to Biotropics Malaysia Bhd, one of the anchor companies under the Agriculture, High-Value Herbal Products, National Key Economic Areas (NKEA), which conducts pre-clinical and clinical research on the product Tongkat Ali.

"We find the Tongkat Ali industry facing numerous challenges. The herb is also largely harvested from the wild, it may be extinct in the next 20 years if there is no effort to cultivate it," he said.
