KOTA KINABALU: A fisherman believed to have been a victim of a crocodile attack in Kg. Sukau, Kinabatangan some 350km from here, has been found dead.

Munir Sahid, 44, who had gone to the river to check on his shrimp traps at about 4pm Monday failed to return home by night.

A farmer claimed he saw someone struggling with what looked like a reptile earlier in the evening but was not sure as he was quite far from the scene.

Villagers and search and rescue teams launched an operation to look for the missing fisherman but failed to find him.

Kinabatangan Fire and Rescue station chief Rosemadian Abdul Majid said Munir’s body was discovered floating in the river, about a kilometre from where he was last seen.

“Villagers discovered the body at about 2.57pm Tuesday and alerted the authorities,” he said.

It is learnt that there were injury marks on the body, believed to be bite marks.

The body has been sent to the district hospital for post-mortem.
