PETALING JAYA: An increase in fines is not likely to reduce accidents unless accompanied by stricter enforcement and more road safety campaigns, said the Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (Miros).
Its chairman Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye (pic) said in a press statement that the 140,000 traffic summonses issued by police since Ops Selamat 8 began on Feb 1 showed that Malaysians were “unfazed” by traffic compounds.
