Tee trying to avoid the manhole which Lim fell into in Klang

KLANG: A 15-year-old boy ruptured one of his kidneys after he fell into an uncovered manhole near Persiaran Batu Nilam in Bukit Tinggi here.

Lim Wei Teck, had to have his kidney removed in order to save his life following the terrifying incident in the morning of Jan 27.

“I was walking along the pedestrian walkway to school with three other schoolmates after having our breakfast at an outlet nearby at about 6.45am.

“There were several uncovered manholes but I missed one that was covered by branches and leaves.

“I fell on my right foot and hit the right side of my body. I could not feel the ground,” the Form Three student of SMK Batu Unjur recalled when met here Saturday.

His mother, May Tok, 44, said that several members of the public rushed her son to the hospital.

“The doctor told me that my son’s right kidney was ruptured from the impact of the fall.

“His internal bleeding was so bad that his stomach was swollen. There was no choice but to remove his organ through a surgery,” Tok said.

“He loves sports, especially basketball. We are still unsure of how his life is going to be affected but as a mother, I am upset that he had to go through all these,” she added.

Tok highlighted their plight and concern with Klang MCA Youth chief Tee Hooi Ling and revisited the accident scene together with several journalists on Saturday.

The walkway was built around a hypermarket and many uncovered manholes were seen during the visit.

Parts of the walkway were also partially hidden by overgrown trees planted along the way and were strewn with rubbish.

The manhole, where Wei Teck fell into, was estimated to be about 1.8m deep.

Tee said the family reserved the right to take legal action against the any party responsible for the mishap.

“MCA Youth legal bureau chief Ng Kian Nam is looking into the case and has started discussions with the family for them to bring up the case.

"In the meantime, we strongly urged the Klang Municipal Council (MPK) to fix these uncovered manholes to prevent similar accidents from occurring," she added.
