Najib: Avoid red carpets and special meals

PETALING JAYA: The main focus of any official working visit across the country must be about the rakyat and not protocol, says Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak (pic).

The Prime Minister said that wherever possible, official functions should avoid preparations such as red carpets and special meals.

“I would like to thank the people for their preparations to welcome me. I understand that there are protocols to follow but if they can, they should avoid preparations such as red carpets and special meals," he said in a blog posting on Wednesday.

Najib also reminded his Cabinet members and ministries to spend government allocations wisely.

“I would like to add that this includes the expenditure during my official visits with other ministers.

“Based on my observations from a recent working trip, I find that there are many more ways expenditure can be reduced or avoided,” he said.

Najib said his working visits were aimed at meeting with the rakyat to listen to their grouses directly and to resolve their problems.

"The main focus is on the rakyat," he added.
