Chinese New Year medley by five friends go viral

PETALING JAYA: Chinese New Year is just around the corner, and a group of five friends from Kuala Lumpur have created an a capella medley to get Malaysians in the festive mood.

The medley features a mix of popular Chinese New Year tunes, such as, chun dao ren jian (the arrival of spring), xi qing xin nian le (celebrate the new year bliss), gong xi fa cai (wishing you prosperity) and he xin nian (new year blessings).

"Greetings! We would like to dedicate this a capella medley to all our beloved brothers & sisters in Malaysia, and share the joy with people all around the world. Happy Lunar New Year," said Colour of Voices (COV).

The Malaysian capella group is made up of Asnal as the lead, Ikhwan (Acai) as the tenor, Jo (Juhairee) as the baritone, Shark (Jaswan) as the bass and Jeffery (Tuxy TuxBoNic) as the beatboxer.

A week after upload, the video has garnered more than 18,000 views on Youtube and more than 13,000 views on Facebook.

Their Facebook video also received close to 700 shares and likes.

Several netizens praised the Malaysian vocal group's diverse cultures and accurate pronunciation of the Chinese lyrics.

"Good job! Good team spirit of 1Malaysia. Excellent voices," said Facebook user Angela Hong.

"Well done, Colour of Voices! I Proud to call myself a Malaysian! Will share with my expat community abroad! Keep up the good work," said Facebook user Jennifer Yen.

"Great! Just one word to describe this piece when I heard it the first time "WOW!!!” Keep up the good work," said Facebook user Vanitha Ratnam.

Member of COV Jeffery Goh thanked netizens for their support in a Facebook comment.

"Thank you everyone for supporting us. Follow us for more music pleasure. It's fun, I promise," he said.
