PETALING JAYA: Attorney-General Tan Sri Mohamed Apandi Ali (pic) has been appointed a member of Lembaga Tabung Haji (LTH)’s board of directors.
This information was made available on LTH’s website, which lists Apandi in its corporate directory.
LTH has been in the news over claims that the pilgrimage fund may not be able to pay its 8.8 million depositors dividends this year.
The claims are allegedly based on a letter dated Dec 23 sent by BNM governor Tan Sri Zeti Akhtar Aziz to LTH chairman Datuk Seri Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim and a separate letter directed to Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department in charge of religious affairs Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom.
LTH chairman Abdul Azeez said that a statement may be issued on the matter.
In a Facebook post later Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said that the content of the leaked letters had been taken “out of context”.
The deputy minister in charge of Islamic affairs added that the definition of reserves and how it functions differed from a financial situation.
Apandi took over as AG from Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail in July last year.
