PETALING JAYA: Do not involve the Kedah palace in the political drama engulfing the state, says PAS lawmaker Datuk Mahfuz Omar (pic).

The Pokok Sena MP said this amidst speculation that Umno state leaders were seeking Kedah Sultan Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah's interference in their bid to oust Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir.

The group, he claimed, was led by Kedah Umno deputy chairman Datuk Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah with backing from Putrajaya.

"What saddens me the most is there are talks of attempts to drag the Kedah Sultan and the Kedah Regency Council into this matter.

"This is their way to justify their act, in response to voices calling for Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak's resignation as the Prime Minister," he said in a statement Sunday.

Mahfuz said if this took place, the people would channel their anger at the palace if there were to be a change of leadership.

"I would like to remind Najib and the rest of the Kedah leadership – don't involve the Sultan and the Regency Council just to satisfy your political agenda.

"Leave the people out of this too, as it will only be another burden in addition to the high cost of living they are facing now," he said.
