PETALING JAYA: Hail has been reported in Shah Alam and TTDI Jaya following a thunderstorm on Friday evening.
"We are getting reports of hail along the North Klang Valley Expressway (NKVE)," said The Star Radio Group's traffic announcer Priscilla Patrick in a message to The Star Online.
"Thankfully, there were no dents on my car," he added.
NOEL FOO reported that Shah Alam residents were astonished earlier Friday evening when it started raining hail stones, especially around TTDI Jaya and Seksyen U8 in Bukit Jelutong, Shah Alam.
Videos and pictures of the hail have been posted up by residents on various social media channels.
Selangor Fire and Rescue Department firefighter Rozaidi Abdul Rahim was eating at a food stall in TTDI Jaya with three of his colleagues when the hailstorm took place.
"We just thought it was a normal heavy rainstorm at first, but then after a while, the sound was different when rain started hitting the zinc roof."
He said that the storm and following hail commenced around 4.30pm onwards.
"So when we looked out, it was raining ice all over, on the cars and buildings," said Rozaidi.
He said it was a shock and also interesting to see a rain of hail, because it was the first time such an incident had taken place in front of his own eyes.
"Other people around us were taking photos and videos. I should have snapped a few also because so far, I've only seen and read about hailstorms on Facebook and the Internet," said Rozaidi.
He added that even the boy tending the food stall managed to dash out and pick a few hailstones.
The hail lasted about 10 minutes or so, he said.
