SERDANG: The Government has allocated an additional RM3mil to help the Federation of Chinese Associations Malaysia (Huazong) pay for Wisma Huazong in Seri Kembangan.

The unexpected allocation was announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, to loud applause, during the opening of the 12-storey building which cost RM85mil.

Although the Government had earlier allocated RM5mil in 2011, Huazong still had an outstanding loan of RM12mil.

Najib encouraged donors, including the Chinese businesses community attending the opening ceremony, to contribute a bit more.

“It is not much for some of the big corporate figures here. It’s loose change for them if they can contribute a bit more. I thank you for your support,” he said.

Najib also contributed a 500 volume collection of books about Chinese civilisation and culture to Huazong.

Huazong president Tan Sri Pheng Yin Huah thanked the Government and sponsors for their contributions.

He said the opening the of building symbolised the spirit of unity of the Chinese community and their loyalty towards the country.

“This is a very important chapter to record the determination and the never-give-up spirit of the Malaysian Chinese,” he added.

Huazong, whose members consist of the Chinese Assembly Halls from 13 states, was founded in 1991 to unite the community and to look into their welfare.
