PETALING JAYA: A hit-and-run accident has left a photographer fighting for his life after he suffered serious head injuries.

The 23-year-old man was riding pillion when a reckless driver knocked into his friend's motorcycle around 12.20am on New Year's eve.

His friend, Zainal Arifin Bukasan, 19, said the duo had just got off the Ampang exit on the DUKE Highway when they heard a loud screeching sound of car brakes.

"Before we knew it, the car hit us and sent us flying.

"I barely managed to sit up to see a car speeding off," he said when contacted on Monday.

His friend, however suffered a cracked skull and has been in a coma since.

"He has undergone two operations and his condition is still critical," said Zainal Arifin who also sustained injuries to his ribs, arms and legs.

He said that the licence plate of the car had fallen off during the accident.

Ampang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Hamzah Alias (pic) confirmed the case and said police are investigating it under Section 43 of the Road Transport Act for reckless driving.

"We also hope to record a statement from the victim once he regains consciousness,” he said.
