PUTRAJAYA: International students now have the option of applying for their passes online, directly to the Education Malaysia Global Services (EMGS), said Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh (pic).
The decision was made by the Cabinet on Wednesday and will take effect on Jan 1 next year.
At the same time, students have the option of applying for the passes through their higher education institutions.
Idris said the student passes will now be issued according to the duration of their studies.
"Before this, the pass needs to be renewed every year. Now, the duration will be issued according to the period of their studies so if their course if for three years, their pass will be issued for three years," he told reporters.
Idris said the social visit pass for students under the Mobility Programme will be issued for a maximum of 12 months instead of the current three.
