PETALING JAYA: Police have quashed rumours that a bomb was the cause of a fire that damaged six cars at a car park near the Taman Jaya LRT station here.

Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Zani Che Din said that the incident was an act of arson, but denied there was a bomb.

"There was no bomb. We are investigating the case," he said when contacted Monday.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar also tweeted about the incident.

"Someone set a car ablaze at parking of Lrt Taman Jaya, Pj. There was no bomb explosion. @PDRMsia is investigating a case of mischief by fire," he said.

Images of the 1pm incident went viral on WhatsApp shortly after the incident, with rumours of a bomb being set off.

The Fire and Rescue Department said they took about half an hour to extinguish the flames and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

No one was hurt in the incident.
